Banned for Multiple Accounts? Households, New Phones and Accidental Duplicates

Last checked against the Skillz help center and terms of service on September 23, 2026.

Glossy 3D cartoon of a new smartphone rising from an open gift box, its screen showing one profile avatar, an empty sign-in field and a gold key, with an older phone and a ring of house keys nearby on a deep purple background.

You open the app and find a suspension notice over multiple accounts, or support tells you your account is linked to one you don't remember making. The one-account rule belongs to Skillz, operated by Firy Inc (NYSE: FIRY, formerly SKLZ). Here's the rule word for word, how duplicates happen by accident, and what to do first.

Short answer

One person, one account. Section 7.3 of Skillz's terms says: "You may not have more than one registered account with the same personal information, such as your name, email address, phone number, mobile device, and payment method." For accidental duplicates, Skillz's FAQ for its Arena app says to "contact support to have them merged." Nobody can promise the outcome.

Disclosure: Atay Games makes games that run on Skillz, which runs accounts, sign-in and player support for cash play.

What Does the Policy Actually Say?

Skillz's User Terms (updated May 22, 2025) list "the opening and/or use of multiple accounts" as Abuse in section 7.3, with the example that "You may not have more than one registered account with the same personal information, such as your name, email address, phone number, mobile device, and payment method." The terms never mention households.

Here's what section 7.3 of Skillz's User Terms says can follow:

"you will be subject to immediate sanction (as determined by us and our developer partners only), which may include, without limitation: (1) immediate termination of your Account and blocking of your access to the Website and Services; (2) any Winnings that you may otherwise have been entitled to receive shall be void and forfeited; (3) any Winnings received by you shall be subject to disgorgement and/or recoupment; and (4) you may be charged a fine of up to $1,000 for engaging in unfair methods." Skillz User Terms, section 7.3, updated as of May 22, 2025, retrieved September 23, 2026

The key word is "may." The terms don't say which sanction fits which case, and we can't tell you what Skillz will decide about yours.

The only help-center article that answers the question head-on is a FAQ for Skillz Arena, Skillz's own all-in-one app: "If accounts were accidentally created (e.g., two sign-in methods), contact support to have them merged." Our games are standalone Skillz apps, and we couldn't confirm that offer covers them.

Skillz's terms never mention households, family members or roommates. We read all 119 English articles in Skillz's help center on September 23, 2026. Exactly one answers the multiple-accounts question, the only family line is Aeropay's bank answer, and none explains how to appeal an account suspension.

What Should You Do Right Now?

Start in the app, not with a new account. Skillz's help center says you may be signed in under an auto-generated account; open the side menu, tap Account, then Log In, and use the same email or phone number as before. If that fails, contact support in the app or at support@skillz.com with your username and payment details.
  1. Don't create another account, whether to get back in or to keep playing. That's the exact behavior section 7.3 names.
  2. Check which account you're in. If the username isn't yours, Skillz says: "If you're signed in under an auto-generated account that is not the one you used previously, open the side menu and tap Account, then tap Log In" (Skillz help 204372925). Labels can differ by game version.
  3. Sign in the same way you did before: phone number with a texted code, or email and password. If the app lists several usernames, Skillz says: "Make sure the correct one is selected, then tap Select" (Skillz help 204373235).
  4. Forgot the password? Skillz says to "tap Forgot Username/Password and enter your email address."
  5. Never saved an email or password, or deposited into an account you can't reach? Skillz tells players to "get in touch with our Player Support. We're happy to move the cash over to your real account" (Skillz help 115001140243). We can't promise how a particular case will go.
  6. Two accounts, or a suspension notice? Skillz says to tap the menu, then Contact Support, and choose a category (Skillz help 203685879), or email support@skillz.com. There's no phone line: "Please note that we do not offer phone services at this time."
  7. Keep a record: ticket number, dates, and screenshots of the notice and every username.

Copy this into your ticket

Subject: Account help, [your username]
My real account: [username], [email], [phone number]
Other usernames on my phone: [list, or none]
How I deposited: PayPal [email] OR [card type] ending [last 4]
What happened: [new phone / logged out / opened a new Skillz game / used a different sign-in method] on [date]
Others using this phone, card or PayPal for Skillz: [no / yes, who]
Attached: screenshots of the notice and each username
Request: Please help me back into my original account (or: please merge these accounts).

Fields follow Skillz's ticket form (help 203685879) and the details that "will help us locate that account" (help 115001140243). Never send a full card number. Be accurate: section 4 warns that knowingly inaccurate information "may result, without limitation, in immediate termination of your Account and forfeiture of Winnings."

Why Does This Happen?

Every accidental duplicate Skillz documents starts at sign-in. Skillz says that when you open a Skillz game for the first time "you are automatically signed in with a random username," and that "Sometimes, opening a new game will automatically log you in as a new user." Its Skillz Arena FAQ also names "two sign-in methods" as a cause.

Skillz's help center documents this sign-in behavior:

  • The first open. You get "a random username, and occasionally your email address will not be linked" (Skillz help 204372885).
  • A new game. Skillz says opening a new game can "log you in as a new user" (help 204372925).
  • An unsaved account. Logging back in works "As long as you’ve saved your account with an email address and password" (help 204372925).
  • Two sign-in methods. Phone number one time, email the next. The Arena FAQ names this cause.
  • One phone, several usernames. Skillz says "you may see a list of usernames previously used on your device" (help 204373235).

How does Skillz spot duplicates? It doesn't say, and we won't guess. Its privacy policy says it uses personal information "to detect and prevent fraud, cheating, abuse or other harmful activities." On cheating reports, its help center adds: "We won't however disclose any information about these investigations" (Skillz help 115001140183).

Can Two People in the Same House Play Skillz Games?

Skillz's terms say nothing about households. They require one account per person, bar anyone else from using your account (section 1.5), and name mobile device and payment method in the multiple-accounts example (section 7.3). Skillz's Aeropay FAQ adds that you cannot connect a family member's or partner's bank account.

Each adult needs their own account, and nobody may play on yours. Past that, the terms don't say how Skillz treats two adults under one roof. So we won't tell you it's fine, and we won't tell you it means a ban. Ask Skillz support before a second adult plays cash on a shared phone, and keep the answer in writing.

Common household situations. "Not addressed" means we found nothing on it in Skillz's terms or help center on September 23, 2026.
Situation What Skillz's documents say What to do
Your partner wants to play on your accountSection 1.5: "You may not allow any other person to (i) access your Account"Don't. Each adult needs their own account.
Two adults, one shared phone, two accountsNot addressed. Section 7.3's example lists "mobile device" among the personal information that must not repeat across one person's accounts.Ask Skillz support first and keep the written answer.
Two accounts paid with one card or PayPalNot addressed for two people. Section 7.3's example lists "payment method." Section 8.10: "When you pay for any charges by credit card, you represent to us that you are the authorized user of such credit card."Each player pays with a method in their own name.
Linking a family member's bank through Aeropay"No. Only bank accounts in your own name can be connected. Attempting to link someone else’s account can cause errors or account restrictions." (help 37471978518676)Link only a bank account in your own name.
A teenager wants to playSection 1.3.1: to register an account, compete "and/or to download Software," you must be "at least 18 years of age or older." Section 1.5 bars anyone else from your account. Not in Skillz-powered apps, free or cash, and never on your account.

Bonuses follow the same rule: Skillz's Arena FAQ says duplicate bonuses may be "clawed back" when multiple accounts are detected. Here's how bonus cash works. For how age checks work, see how old you have to be to play cash game apps.

How Do You Switch to a New Phone Without Making a Second Account?

Your Skillz balance belongs to your account, not your phone. Skillz says you can use the same username and password "to log into any Skillz-enabled game, on any device," and tells players installing a game to "make sure to log in using your existing username and password." Log in before your first match on the new phone.
  1. Before you switch, save your account with an email and password you can reach (help 204372925).
  2. Install from the official source: the App Store on iPhone (see our iPhone guide), or on Android the download button on the game's page in our games list, not Google Play. Here's why the Android version installs from our site.
  3. Expect a random username on first open. Don't play yet.
  4. Log in with the same method as before: phone number or email.
  5. Check the username and balance, then play. "Your cash balance syncs across any Skillz games you are logged into" (Skillz help 203685909).
  6. New phone number too? Skillz says to "reach out to our support team for assistance" (Skillz help 204373175).

New Phone? Log In Before You Play

1 Save your account An email and password you can reach 2 Install from the official source App Store, or our game page on Android 3 First open: a random username Skillz signs you in automatically 4 Don't play yet: log in Account, then Log In, same method 5 Check username and balance Your balance follows your account 6 Now play One account, every Skillz game

Based on Skillz help-center articles 204372885, 204372925 and 203685909, checked September 23, 2026. Button labels can differ by game version.

Cash play also needs location services turned on (Skillz help 31144805510164), is 18+, and depends on where cash play is available.

How Do You Stop It Happening Again?

The simplest prevention comes from Skillz itself: "sign in with the same phone number / email / username each time, so your balance and history follow you." Save your account with an email and password, verify that email, never let anyone else play on your account, and ask support to update a changed phone number.
  • Sign in the same way every time. That tip is from Skillz's Arena help center (help 50569026796308).
  • Save the account on day one, then verify the email on the same account screen (help 204372885).
  • Store the login in Apple's Passwords app or Google Password Manager, so a new phone never catches you without it.
  • Use one account for every Skillz game, logging in "using your existing username and password" (help 203685909).
  • Keep your login and payment method to yourself.

Don't abandon a forgotten account with money in it. After six inactive months, section 8.7 allows a $2.00 monthly maintenance fee (help 360057419731), so ask support to sort it out.

When Should You Contact Support, and What Can't Anyone Promise?

Skillz's terms let it suspend or close the account of any user "whom we reasonably believe may be in violation of or will violate, these Terms" (section 2.1), and none of the 119 articles in its help center explains how to appeal an account suspension (checked September 23, 2026). Support can review your case; nobody can promise the result.

Contact Skillz support when:

  • You see a suspension notice.
  • You can't reach your original account, or deposited into one you can't reach.
  • You realize you have two accounts, or your phone number changed.
  • Someone else in your home wants to play cash on the same phone.

What no one, including us, can promise: a merge, a lifted suspension, what happens to any balance, or how long a review takes. Section 8.5 says Skillz "may freeze your Account and/or delay a request for withdrawal of funds pending completion of any investigation of reported or suspected Abuse."

Frequently Asked Questions

Can my partner and I both play Skillz games for cash?

Yes, if each of you is 18 or older, eligible where you live, and has your own account. Skillz's terms bar anyone else from using your account (section 1.5) but don't mention households. Before two accounts share one phone or one payment method, ask Skillz support and keep the answer.

What happens if I accidentally made two Skillz accounts?

Contact support and say so. Skillz's FAQ for its Skillz Arena app says: "If accounts were accidentally created (e.g., two sign-in methods), contact support to have them merged." Don't keep playing on the second account, and don't open a third. Nobody can promise the result.

Does Skillz track IP addresses to find multiple accounts?

Skillz doesn't publish how it detects duplicate accounts, and we won't guess. Its privacy policy says it uses personal information "to detect and prevent fraud, cheating, abuse or other harmful activities." The safe path is simple: one account per person, signed in the same way every time.

Can my teenager play on my account?

No. Skillz's terms say you must be at least 18 to register an account, enter competitions or even download a Skillz-powered game (section 1.3.1), and that you may not allow any other person to access your account (section 1.5). That covers free play in these apps too.

I logged out and now the app shows a different username. Is my money gone?

Check this first: you may be in an auto-generated account. Skillz says to open the side menu, tap Account, then Log In, and sign in with the phone number or email you used before. Skillz also says your cash balance syncs across the Skillz games you're logged into. Never saved an email or password? Contact Skillz support.

How do I contact Skillz support?

From the app: Skillz says to open the menu, tap Contact Support, pick a category and add a match ID if relevant. Or email support@skillz.com. Skillz says it doesn't offer phone support. Include your usernames, account email, and your PayPal email or card type and last 4 digits.
